Wroughton 4 – 1 Odd Down Reserves

After a stunning midweek performance against a strong Corsham side, our young reserves travelled to the current Wilts County Champions, Wroughton.

This being our 7th game in 14 days, the side was much changed due to injuries, first team call ups and suspension. Nonetheless, the change in personnel was no excuse for our opening 60 mins.

For the first time this season we were off the pace, passive, lacklustre and pedestrian in our approach. In contrast the home side were aggressive, fluid and very much up for the game.

We went 1 nil down early, Seb saved a penalty on 30 mins but we were 2 down at HT.

A change of shape at HT looked to have done the trick but then we conceded a soft 3rd. Unfortunately we went down to 10 again, as Terry pulled his hamstring on 55mins. We soon went 4 down from a set piece, but then the boys actually started to play. Miles, Benji and Aidan all began to have many touches of the ball and we started to look threatening even with 10. Our final 30 mins performance was rewarded when James ran through and scored neatly for 4-1.

Maybe a game too far too soon, again a strong and well organised home side.

Lots to reflect on.

Terry, Phil and Jay
