After the going so close to winning the premier division for the first time in Odd Down history in March, the u18s returned to action with a point to prove. However, Cribbs were always going to be tough, well drilled and resolute.
We dominated the open exchanges moving the ball well but perhaps not really penetrating enough. James went close with a free kick and Sheepy a header, but our lack of cutting edge gave Cribbs confidence and they came into the game at the bad of the half. It was only a fine save from Ben O that kept the scores level. Right on half time we were unlucky not to squeeze in front after fine play from Flynn out Devante through but the defender covered well. 0-0 HT.
We spoke during the interval about tempo, desire and men in the box.
Our candid chat seem to work and we won the game in the first 20 minutes of the 2nd half. Noady went close following up a rebound, before Harvey headed against the bar from a lofted free kick. However, JC slotted home the rebound for 1-0. Aidan then delivered a lovely pass with the outside of his foot which saw Noady go close once more. On 55 mins it was 2 nil. Devante playing more centrally turned his man and smashed a rocket against the bar, Judah was on hand to collect the rebound first and score.
On 65 mins it was 3-nil, Farley speculative effort was too hot for the keeper and ended up in the net.
The game was sealed on 80 mins with a goal of the highest quality. Benji picked up the ball on the half way exchanged 1-2 with Ethan, then fed Devante who spotted the 3rd man run of Brad and the little wizard slotted under the keeper for a sensational 4th goal.
Cribbs rallied late for a consolation but Harvey and JC were imperious all night to compound a very good win.
Week commencing 21st September we travel to Cinderford for an even tougher next round match.
Thanks for the support,
Jay and Phil
