Wednesday 16th September

Our young reserves faced the daunting task of Corsham Town Reserves equipped with 9 first team players and as such our boys started a little nervously. Corsham dominated the ball and the boys stayed narrow to deny them any real clear openings. After 20 minutes or so of being on the back foot, the boys realised they could match their opposition and began to play some good football keeping possession for long periods. In addition, our speed around the park was beginning to show.

On 25 mins, Sheepy won the ball high and played in Noady, James took an excellent first touch before calmly chipping the advancing keeper. 1-0. 10 minutes later we were 2 up, this Dan slotted a lovely weighted pass forwards and Conor scored his first goal for the club. We then sadly lost Sheepy through injury. The visitors were clearly rattled and pressed hard for a goal back, which came right on half time with a well worked goal. 2-1HT.

We knew Corsham would come at us after the break and so it proved. Again though we lost another key player through injury (Flynn), so in regards to personnel and shape we were up against it.  Corsham equalised on 50 mins, our guys played a high line but their #10 ran through and scored. At this points the odds on us hanging on against a very experienced side with our depleted numbers was slim. However, the boys kept a rigid shape, worked hard and gave little away. On 70mins Ethan Long entered the fray and his power and pace caused Corsham problems straight away. On 75 mins, Ethan turned away from one defender and placed the ball into the path of Noady. Our #10 outpaced the last defender and slotted passed the advancing keeper to give the boys a 3-2 lead. An amazing effort.

On 77 mins (again) our discipline let us down. Will ’s tackle was adjudged reckless and we were down to 10 men.

The boys hung on admirably until very late when Corsham equalised after a superb left wing cross was converted at the back post. 3-3. Final score.

A superb effort by every lad against a very accomplished side who expected to come to the Down and win comfortably.
